Marty of Smith Bros. Longreach — what an achievement! Oxfam Trailwalker : July '18

Hello again,

We did it! YTOB have successfully conquered Oxfam 100 Brisbane 2018.

We topped the fundraising. As of today our generous supporters have donated $31,500.00!!! Which is a whopping $22,282 ahead of second place and even further ahead of teams 3 to 135! Everyone’s generosity has astounded and humbled us. Thank you very much.

The event itself was very challenging. 100km is a long way! We had trained pretty well and we were ready for the distance. What we had not bargained on was how tough the course was. It was mountainous! For well over 80% of the time we were either climbing or descending. It was extremely tough!

We finished in a very respectable 26 hours and 54 minutes and came 34th out of 135 teams. Many teams did not finish and we were in the minority with teams that finished with all 4 team members.

We also need to thank our families for putting up with us during the training and cheering us across the finish line. Your support made it so much easier and so much more worthwhile.

As tough as it was, I loved every minute of it. We walked mostly on fire break tracks in the D’Aguilar National Park. The scenery was spectacular and the weather was kind.

Best of all though was being able to share the whole experience with my team mates. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes to challenge themselves and to anyone who has at least 3 good mates. Go and challenge yourself and those friendships. If you are up to it, it is very rewarding.
